The Mass of the Winged Lion, a new piece specially commissioned from composer Martin Ellerby to mark the 40th anniversary of Ryton Chorale.

It is set for strings, percussion and piano (four hands). Benjamin Frith and Heidi Rolfe took the piano parts.

English Pro Musica were delighted to be working again with Ryton Chorale and Benjamin, well known as concert pianist and member of the Gould Piano Trio.

“Your musicians were excellent, as always, especially considering that this work was completely new to everyone.

Along with Ben and Heidi on piano you made the performance truly memorable.”

English Pro Musica performed Faure’s Requiem with Viva la Musica at Stoneygate Baptist Church, London Road, Leicester.

“Faure’s Requiem (in John Rutter’s clever orchestration) had the bonus of the English Pro Musica Chamber Orchestra… [The choir] were helped by orchestral and organ playing of the highest order from the delicacy of the harp and soaring violin solo to the brilliance of the brass in the Sanctus.” - Worksop local press

Members of English Pro Musica performed Faure’s Requiem at The Crossing, Worksop with the Ryton Chorale.

“The orchestra were quite simply stunning and you all played so beautifully. I know that the choir were just so inspired by your playing and are very much looking forward to a Messiah in a year’s time” - Simon Lumby (conductor)

“[Ryton Chorale] ...had the bonus of English Pro Musica….orchestral and organ playing of the highest order from the delicacy of the harp and soaring violin solo to the brilliance of the brass in the ‘Sanctus’.”

Saturday 12th March 2022

English Pro Musica partnered with the fabulous Nottingham Trent University Chamber Choir for a whole programme of music by Paul Carr with BBC Young Musician 2018 finalist and woodwind category winner, saxophonist Rob Burton.

“It was lovely to have English Pro Musica playing the concert on Saturday in the glorious acoustic of Southwell Minster. What a great band of musicians they are, and some very fine solo playing too in some of the pieces. A richly hued sound from the strings in the “Air” and in the Saxophone Concerto, with the 2 oboes and harp blending perfectly in the Stabat Mater. It was a beautiful programme of my music and I could not have been more elated.

Thank you to everyone!”
Paul Carr (composer)
